So it’s New Years Eve December 2011 and there is still no sign of a new Gevey Sim to unlock iPhones stuck on the 04.11.08 baseband.

Many people including myself thought that a new Gevey would be out by now, what is taking them so long? Has Apple finally stopped people from unlocking?

Here is the most current news on the Gevey sim:

A Chinese group of hackers called ‘Vold’ have announced a new ‘Gevey’ style sim that bypasses the handset’s IMSI checks enabling the phone to use the sim card of any carrier / network.

How To Factory Unlock iPhone 4 Any Baseband / iOS – Vodafone (iOS5 – 04.11.08)

If you are stuck with a baseband that doesn’t support ultrasn0w or Gevey sim AND Vodafone is your network contract provider then you are in luck! This method will actually Officially Factory Unlock any iPhone! This way you do not need to Jailbreak or mess around with downgrading your baseband.

A lot of places are charging unsuspecting people anything from £1.50 on eBay to £70 as I was quoted in my local independent mobile phone retail shop. When actually this is free to do as long as you have the correct information! Do not get conned by these people and please be careful when paying for an unlock method online.

Even if you don’t have any problems with ‘No Service’ at the minute, it is advised to unlock your phone this way now while it is still possible as Vodafone / Apple could stop doing this at any point seeing as it is an Official Unlock which is Authorised through Apple themselves.
